On the whole caravan motor movers are pretty reliable machines, but occasionally you may have a problem. This is a list of the more common problems and possible quick fixes. Remember unless you know what you are doing and comfortable working with this sort of equipment please don’t try, get a qualified fitter to do any work needed.

1. When you press the control the caravan mover will either, start then stop, or run then stop then runs again and will do this continually, this is commonly caused by signal loss. The first thing to do with any electrical problem, is charge the battery, don’t assume that it’s new so has a full charge or the caravan charger takes care of it. Charge it fully with a proper battery charger. If that doesn’t cure it change the batteries in the handset. If it still does the same then chances are the signal is being interfered with from something like the battery, the charger or some other caravan system. Unless you know what you are doing take it to a fitter to have it checked over for loss of signal
2. A ticking noise coming from the rollers is nothing to worry about and is only a little bit of play between the rollers end and the bearings it runs in. It may be possible to stop the ticking simply by inserting a washer as a spacer to remove the play but this should be done by a fitter. But again this is not necessary as the noise will not cause any harm.
3. The mover works when not engaged but refuses to move the van when engaged. Again the first thing you should consider is that the battery does not have enough power to move your caravan. It may have enough power to turn the lights on, but not enough to run the caravan mover. If you’ve charged the battery and tried another battery and it still does the same then it may be a relay on the circuit board, you will need a new control panel for this one.
4. When pressing the forward button your caravan only moves on one side. Disengage the rollers and press the turn button for the side that didn’t move, if the motor runs then engage the roller only on that wheel and try again. If the motor runs but the van doesn't move the gearbox has broken. If however the motor doesn't run its either a bad or dirty cable connection somewhere usually at the control box.
5. When trying to engage the roller, it goes solid & won’t engage, or goes very stiff but does engage with a struggle. The bar on the back end of the engagement nut has bent, a new end is needed.
These are all generic problems with caravan motor movers that are easy to solve and fix. If you come across something a little more troubling the best thing to do would be to contact your local fitter to have a look at it for you, but remember to save you money check the obvious first, is your battery fully charged and working?

My RK motor mover will not operate inforward or reverse but all the 4 turning positions work fine, can you help please
Many thanks Terry Hunt
Hi Terry
Have you looked at point 3 above? Have you checked the battery? If you have then I would suggest you email engineering@reich-web.com or calling 01543 – 459243 Reich UK.
Hi,
I’ve had the caravan moving with the motor mover, but stopprd working after about 10 mins of use. I have replaced the car battery with a brand new liesure battery & changed the batterys in the controler, but the caravan won’t move….. can you help me in anyway?????
Thanks
Lewis
does the reich mover fit my eriba puck 230gt
Hi Lewis,
Sorry to hear your caravan mover is refusing to work for you
From the information you have given it would be hard to diagnose a specific problem. All I can do is state the pretty obvious and hope I’m not insulting anyone. The battery you replaced, was it new? Did you charge it fully before trying it? Not knowing what make or model of caravan motor mover you have makes problem diagnosis difficult. Have you tried calling some of the caravan mover fitter in your local area? Many of them can offer lots of advice for your specific caravan mover, without charging you for any call out.
Sorry I can’t help further in your problem.
Hi Pam
Before buying any Reich mover I would suggest you call Reich UK on 01543 – 459243. They would provide a far more accurate answer, especially if you are buying this to be fitted by a DIY enthusiast. If buying it from a firm of caravan mover fitters then obviously they should know exactly which vans it would fit.

My dealer fitted Reich mover is fitted to the front of the wheels and appears to be very low with only 110mm ground clearence. Should I be concerned that the mover will foul on obstructions? Would it be worth fitting behind the wheels where I could gain an additional 50mm clearence and make other arrangements for the spare wheel and jacking ponts?
Hi Geoff, As mentioned in the Reich Caravan Motor Mover post this is a known problem with these movers. If you are having trouble with the present location of your caravan mover then my suggestion would be to consider moving it but if all is running well then, don’t try and fix what isn’t broken
Having said that 50mm is a lot more clearance. Not knowing your caravan I would have to say that who ever fitted the mover would have taken the extra clearance and weighed this against the extra hassle of relocating the spare wheel and such. If you are still concerned about it call the fitter and ask him why he located it were he did, there may be some other reason that isn’t obvious to us laymen.
Hope this helps a little
I had a mover fitted in march last year and it worked fine till this last month, when i start the mover it works fine in one directions but trip’s out in the other and this is before I engaged the rollers to the wheels, any advice on that please. also where can i obtain a wiring diagram for the mover system.
Hi, we have just got a caravan and want to know what is the best motor mover out there? Our drive is steep, and caravan weight is 1,100kg- any advise welcome!
All caravan movers will do pretty much the same thing these days so for me choosing ‘the best’ motor mover out there is based upon their warrenty and price for what i get as well as easy replace, repair or remove. Have you had a look at this post about popular caravan movers?
We have a Truma SE mover fitted which pulls to the near side when in use. Any ideas please? Also, can you advise the size of the battery required in amps?
Many thanks

I have a 1999 bailey with an RK mover fitted
(it has grit rollers) one side engages and the lock pin drops in, the other side the lock pin does not drop in. although it locks fine in the non drive position. I only found this out when I tried to bring the van down a long shallow slope and it lurched sideways in a most alarming manner
My Reich RK mover drive shafts are fouling the chassis when engaged and the gritted rollers slip on the tyres
I Bought a Reich Motor Mover in April 2006.Over that period it has only been used around 24 times. The drive rollers are grit coated but around 50% of the surface area has been worn away.Reich state that this is because I have been using campground hardstandings and have not removed gravel caught in my caravan’s tyres which has damaged the roller surface.Reich dispute my assertion that their unit is not ‘fit for purpose’ but no warning was provided by Reich and their brochure states that it ‘operates on any terrain’ and ‘safe and secure movement on any terrain’In your opinion am I being unreasonable to ask Reich for replacement rollers and from your experience is this a common problem. The unit is a Reich Move Control 11 Comfort.
my mover a carver will not accept a signal from the handset is it possible to replace the reciever the model is ar2-1 and the part number is m606929 many thanks denis
I have a dethleffs tag axle motorhome wth alko chasis. It is front wheel drive and as such gets stuck very easily. I wondered if a motor mover could be used in conjunction with the front wheel drive to assist me getting of wet grass etc?
Any ideas
I have a Cross Active Reich Motor Mover, fitted by Glossop Caravans. I spent a few days on a site & as I was leaving one side ,engaged with a great clang .
I had not used the mover to pitch up or to leave & felt very nervous at continuing home after I had disengaged the Mover.
Fortunately I had only travelled about 30 yards & was only doing 5 MPH.
Has anybody had similar problems / Any suggestions ? Glossop caravans were not much help.
I have just had a new Purpleline Enduro 2 mover fitted to my Swift Challenger 560. I have a brand new 110AH leisure basttery installed (fully charged over 2 days on my 8A car charger) and have tried 2 lots of new handset batteries (new, obviously). The problem is that since fitting, the caravan moves incredibly slowly on level tarmac and stops if I try to drive it up a very small (2cm grass verge). The rollers drive really well and continuously when not in contact with the wheels but as above when in contact, with the added problem of intermittently switching off. The fitter says this is normal for a caravan as heavy as mine but it weighs in at less than 1450kg at this time. Surely the Enduro should move that weight? I have had all the electrics checked by an independent auto electrician, plus roller clearances etc and it all appears to be a very professional installation. Any ideas please?
